When You Walk Through Roses
Song # 336
Composition date: 2/9/2004
Commentary Date: 12/15/2007
CD: Eyes On The Horizon

Commentary:
One of the greatest secrets of all time is the notion that "You get what you focus on." It's the dominant concept in the book and movie called "The Secret". It's also one of the fundamental concepts of NLP as well as all major thinkers since the beginning of history. In this song it comes from a place of deep concern and dismay. Something really bad happened in the relationship I was in. This song was an attempt to change it. It has since become one of my personal favorites. I often sing it at the end of a seminar or training. So for today, "Focus in on what you want" - Mark

When You Walk Through Roses     2/9/2004

When you walk through roses

Do you feel the thorns

Or do you see the blossoms

In spite of what you’ve torn?

Can you catch a glimpse of heaven

In a drop of dew?

Or your reflection

In the people around you?

Refrain:

We get what we focus on

So focus in on what you want

Text Box: Alternate refrains:

We get what we focus on so
Focus in on being healed
And the way to get there
Will surely be revealed…

We get what we focus on so
Focus in upon your dream
Go deeper than the surface
Past the way things seem…

We get what we focus on so
Focus in on being loved
Even if it takes you beyond
What you thought love was…

Focus in on me, focusing my love on you…

If you cried a river

Would it feel much better

Than if you laughed the ocean

And then chose to dive right in?

When you hear a jazz band

Do you hear the bass or the horns?

And if somebody asked you

Could you tell them why you were born?

Refrain:

If I wrapped my arms around you

Would you feel constrained

Or would you feel connected

And choose freely to remain?

If I then released you

And then danced away

Would you chose to feel abandoned

Or would you see it as a chance to play?
